Application of Circular Economy in Oil and Gas Produced Water Treatment

The circular economy (CE) is a promising model in industrial waste management, offering viable long-term resource sustainability. rising costs of the oil and gas industry make circularity reliable approach for saving materials, money, energy. In recent years, attention has risen to need apply CE within produced water (PW) treatment. most common treatment practice PW based on mechanical treatment, with optional disposal treated into deep wells. However, this procedure consumes lot energy, increases operational costs, causes environmental risks. This research aims propose sustainable technology promoting by introducing novel nature-based solution treat PW. main objective develop investigating using constructed wetlands (CWs) sustainably reduce amount fields. Additionally, investigate use wastes as filtration materials CW systems. study, eight different laboratory-scale CWs models were designed tested. CWS operated two types flow directions: vertical (VF) horizontal (HF). filter media system included aggregates, activated carbons, plastic, shredded tires. study investigated removal rates Total suspended solids (TSS), dissolved (TDS), Oil Grease (OG), Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) from Testing CWs, it was found that results promising, potential more future tires plastic applications. All systems effective at removing contaminants water, highest recorded efficiencies 94.8% TSS, 33.7% TDS, 90.2% OG, 98.4% TPH. efficient promoted addition possibility reusing effluent agriculture irrigation.
